about

“[…] when Steven Brown put together a Tuxedomoon 10th Anniversary birthday meal, on June 14th 1987, Reininger proposed a reunion tour to mark these ten years of existence. However, rather than a “reunion” in the true sense of the word, it was rather thought of as a farewell tour right from the start as Tuxedomoon ceased to be active for a long time after that adventure.

[…] Reininger: “That tour was sort of my idea. I think that at that time they had given up on Tuxedomoon too. I think that Peter said something like: “All we need now is for Blaine to come back” and that’s precisely what happened.” Since Peter Principle had come to Tuxedomoon’s 10th Anniversary meal with a bottle of Champagne and a similar idea, plans were sealed on the spot and an agent was hired.

[…] the Reunion Tour project developed into a far grander outing than originally envisaged. The idea was now to put the classic lineup – Brown/Reininger/Principle/Tong/Geduldig – back together and this plan proved to be far more marketable than they had first imagined. Tong, back in San Francisco since 1985, remained to be convinced but optimism seemed to be prevailing as promotional flyers and posters were printed featuring Tong’s face as a backdrop.
As a matter of fact, this idea of presenting a lineup as close as possible to the original San Francisco one was even brought a step further, by sheer chance. In October 1987, Bruce Geduldig, then touring in Germany with his Weathermen project, ran into someone in a hotel lobby who turned out to be... Paul Zahl, Tuxedomoon’s original drummer.

[…] Zahl: “The next day The Flamin’ Groovies were playing Antwerp, from which I called Steven in Brussels.
[...] I always loved the music I did with Tuxedomoon. I always found that something magical happened when I was sitting between Blaine and Steven. I don’t know why. It just happened. Even on the Reunion Tour the magical stuff happened a lot at soundchecks etc. [...] we were becoming this giant powerful musical thing that sounded wonderful and could conjure up the magic at will. The thing we had turned into at the end of the Reunion Tour was as powerful and magic as anything we had ever done”.”
